HiQLCD
Life Cycle Database of China
Introduction
○ HiQLCD is dedicated to providing data support that meets international mainstream Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) standards for industrial manufacturing enterprises in China. It covers a wide range of product categories, including electricity, heat, steel, non-ferrous metals, metal alloys, coal, building materials, photovoltaics, waste treatment, and transportation. This support enables applications such as data disclosure based on LCA results (LCA, carbon footprint reports), certification (EPD, carbon labels), product process improvement (ecodesign, green supply chain management, etc.), and policy research.
Details
The HiQLCD database aims to provide users with background data that reflects the actual production processes of Chinese industrial products, supporting applications such as data disclosure based on LCA results (LCA, carbon footprint reports), certification (EPD, carbon labels), product process improvement (eco-design, green supply chain management, etc.), and policy research. To ensure data reliability, it adheres to four strict principles:
Comprehensive: Full coverage of key industry subcategories.
Precise: Methodology aligns with international standards.
Transparent: Clear data sources with full traceability.
User-Friendly: Fully compatible with mainstream LCA tools.
Up-to-Date: New technology, timely information, and frequent updates.
The HiQLCD database includes three types of system model versions: system expansion model version, cut-off model version, and EN15804 version. The three versions of the database can serve different application scenarios. The system expansion model version mainly adopts the system expansion method to avoid allocation for by-products and multi-product systems, suitable for application scenarios considering the environmental benefits of recycling materials or energy. The cut-off model version involves allocation for by-products and main products, and the allocation method for multi-product systems adopts the cut-off method, which has the most extensive applicability and can support users in flexibly calling various allocation methods required for LCA modeling. The EN15804 version is constructed according to the EN15804 standard and serves the LCA model construction in EPD projects.
Data Format and Data Categories
The HiQLCD database can be downloaded in ILCD package format and imported into professional LCA software for application. The database includes three types of data: unit process datasets, LCI datasets, and LCIA results. LCI datasets and LCIA results can be viewed and downloaded in the HiQLCD data plaza. The basic object for LCI calculation in the HiQLCD database is the system unit process dataset, which can output calculations containing multiple LCIA methods and indicators such as IPCC2021, CML v4.8 2016, EF 3.0, and Recipe.
The datasets in the HiQLCD database include two main categories: product datasets and process datasets. Product datasets are object-oriented and can be used independently. Process datasets are process-oriented and, compared to product datasets, do not consider raw material consumption but only consider flows such as energy, auxiliary materials, and emissions during the process. They are often used in conjunction with product datasets. Additionally, datasets are distinguished by different boundaries into production datasets and market datasets. Production datasets cover the cradle-to-gate boundary, while market datasets consider downstream transportation processes based on production datasets, integrating logistics and related transportation data for specific products in specific regions.

Version
Clicking on the version name will allow you to view specific datasets.
HiQLCD1.0.0
HiQLCD database released its first version (HiQLCD1.0.0) in December 2023. This version contains 11,040 LCI datasets covering major industrial sectors including steel, non-ferrous metals, refractory materials, metallurgical auxiliaries, building materials, chemicals, and electrical machinery. These datasets provide comprehensive lifecycle inventory data to support environmental impact assessment and decision-making across these industries.
HiQLCD1.1.0
The second version was updated and released in December 2024, expanding the data volume nearly threefold and covering more categories including electricity, waste management, coal, iron ore, and transportation.
